Day 4
Dog Fence
Today we say goodbye to the open hiways that have allowed us to ride at speeds of 100Kph. Day 4 finds us on the Silverton to Milparinka section of our journey and this will test us as riders. After talking to Datto and looking at the two options before us, I had to agree on ONE route. Put simply, we can take the well beaten track “Silvercity Hwy” That keeps us on a public track that is well used and frequented by many cars and trucks. Or we can take the dog fence and see Australia completely away from the rest of the world. I will post both options here as I admit I am more than worried about taking the dog fence to Milparinka. My concerns are we’ll need to carry fuel for 380 klms, that I believe should be done over 2 days. That means bringing food and water and a very VERY good PLAN B in case we get in trouble out there. Falling off our bikes is a very serious possibility as this road “may” not be as well maintained as the Silver City HWY.

380 Klms or dirt. This stretch of our journey should be attempted over two easy days rather than one long attempt.

However if decided by us all collectively, we may decide to take the more direct and safer public Silver City Hwy. The first 20klm klm is sealed road but just as you get your game on, it turns to DIRT. From what I can see the dirt Hwy seems to be well maintained and graded so it should be a case of “point the bikes north and ride”..
Silver City Hwy
Silver City Hwy is an easier 318klm ride on a graded road that is frequented by many cars and trucks. Packsaddle Roadhouse allows us to collect fuel along the way making it a comortable days ride and open spaces to see camels, horses and kangaroo. Its a very safe Plan B.
